Summary: |
Perform all aspects of high complexity molecular genetic testing in a CAP approved
and CLIA certified laboratory. To include tasks such as DNA and RNA extraction,
PCR, DNA sequencing, labeling and reporting test results by following laboratory
SOP’s. The technologist I will ensure proper laboratory record maintenance is in
effect, make sure cases are processed in a timely fashion, and contribute to general
laboratory maintenance. Make sure all clinical assays meet the TAT and adjust workload
schedules if necessary. |

Essential Duties: |
- Extract DNA or RNA from different biological samples ranging from blood, urine, cell, chorionic villous, POC and others. Check Quality and Quantity of DNA via spectrophotometer, electrophoresis and/or other methods.
- Perform various amplification techniques such as PCR, RT-PCR, real time RT-PCR. Perform all aspects relating to amplification such as PCR reactions, purification, quantification and isolation of a specific fragment, electrophoresis gels, and image capture and data storage.
- Perform all steps involved in RNA and DNA labeling, purification and hybridization for clinical assay such as aCGH or Gene Expression. Operation of DNA sequencer or fragment analysis equipment, Microarray Scanner, software analysis, and data interpretation are part of routine on daily basis.
- Maintain records in electronic notebook, equipment logs, test run logs, and other related sources of documentation.
- Maintain stock reagents.
- Assure equipment and new lots of reagents are validated.
- Report problems concerning individual samples, test requests, equipment, and supplies to the laboratory supervisor.
- Train new Scientists, Technologists and Associates.
- Cross train in other assays within the department.
- Perform various housekeeping and/or maintenance tasks to keep laboratory and equipment in clean and operable condition. Clean lab benches and work areas, replenish supplies. Report any malfunctions to the laboratory supervisor.
- Ensure compliance of all SOPs and policies of CMDX.
- Assist Clinical Laboratory Supervisor.
